Advantages and Disadvantages of Political Parties

In the United States there is a two-party political system that is comprised of the Republican Party and the Democratic party. Since 1852, either one of the parties have won during every election party. In other countries, such as Canada, there are several different parties that can run during an election. Although it may seem like a great idea to have a group of individuals racing to run the government, there are many people who believe that political parties are a detriment to society.

Establishing Governing Bodies

The largest advantage associated with political parties is that they help to establish order as they are essentially seen as governing bodies. Having order in society is the most important aspect of having a safe and controlled environment for everyone to live in. Without the assistance of a ruling party, it would be difficult to have municipal sewage, water, or even electricity. Not to mention that there wouldn’t be a way to monitor and create military sectors to help protect your native land. Establishing governing bodies is the most important aspect of developing a society.

Making a Change

Another large advantage is that voters have the opportunity to speak their mind about governing parties that are running to rule their country. Instead of being a number in a countless array of citizens, people can and do make real changes that can affect their lives and the lives of their families. During voting season, you are given the opportunity to vote for the candidates that you think will give you the most advantages and help you to live a better life.

Inequality

The largest disadvantage associated with having numerous political parties is that there is a lack of equality. Even if a country has 5 different parties that are running, only 2 of them or maybe even 3 of them will be considered. This can be quite frustrating for voters who support the smaller, less popular parties as they generally do not have the opportunity to get voted into a place of power.

Another aspect of inequality is that many people think that a single political party doesn’t have the right to make decisions for the general public. In some cases, this can be true, as many residents may not support the things that the party supports. With that being said, there could be a whole half of a population that does not get a say in anything.
